North Branch Citizen's Police Academy

North Branch Policy Department Introduces
"Citizens Academy"

The North Branch Police Department, Wyoming Police Department, Lakes Area Police Department, and the Chisago County Sheriff’s Office are teaming together to provide Chisago County residents with an opportunity to experience “life behind the badge” with an eight-week Citizen’s Police Academy taking place this fall.  The Program is intended to strengthen partnerships between the police and the community and to give citizens insight into modern-day policing through classroom and hands-on training conducted by various law enforcement personnel.

Sessions will involve a wide variety of topics and hands-on activities in which participants can learn about police use of force, criminal investigations, emergency communications, traffic stops, DWI demonstrations, and other topics.  After successful completion of the program, participants will also be given the opportunity to ride-along with a police officer for four hours during his or her shift.

REQUIREMENTS:  You must be at least 21 years of age, have a valid driver’s license, and no felony convictions on your record.  Applicants will be asked to submit a completed Citizen’s Police Academy Application and sign a Waiver and Release of Liability Form.  All participants will be subject to a criminal background check.

The 2014 Citizen's Academy is scheduled to begin in September.  Applications are available at each agency or on the North Branch Police Department’s website (below).   For questions or to obtain further information, please contact North Branch Police Chief Dan Meyer at 651-674-8848 or via email at
